EP International competition rules

Log-Ins: 

• Every student has a unique log-in to access Education Perfect. Any students found to be sharing log-ins will be disqualified. 
• Any student that interferes with other students' log-ins will be disqualified. 

Content: 

• Any content that has been built and is shared by Education Perfect may be used in competitions. Student-made content is not eligible to earn points towards a competition. 
• The use of any school-made content which has been specifically created to require no student thought/time for completion may result in disqualification.
• Students can revisit content to earn additional points. After their first attempt on any question, they can complete it again after 24 hours. This is within competition rules. See how our points and scoring system works here.

Eligibility: 

• Only school-age students are eligible to participate in Education Perfect international competitions. Under no circumstances are tertiary-aged students or teachers able to compete in events.
• Our Languages competitions are intended for students learning languages as foreign or second languages - not native speakers. While we cannot prevent native speakers from completing Languages questions in their native language, we strongly discourage it, as this is both unfair to students participating in good faith and against the spirit of the event. 

Penalties

The Education Perfect platform has robust anti-cheating monitoring systems that are able to detect unusual student/bot activity during competitions. Should any unfair student activity be detected during any international student competition, or if any of the above rules are found to have been broken, the following penalties may apply.

• Disqualification: We reserve the right to disqualify any student deemed to be not competing fairly, from either single or multiple events, where we can produce reasonable evidence to support this claim. 
• Points Removal: Should a student be found to not be competing fairly, students risk having all of their Education Perfect points removed (not just their competition points). This cannot be undone. 
• Suspension of Access: Minor infringements may be dealt with by suspension of a student's access to Education Perfect.

In all infringement cases identified by Education Perfect, we will notify the teacher as soon as the behaviour has been identified. Teachers must respond within 24 hours, or student points may be removed, which cannot be undone.

The decisions of the Education Perfect team in these cases are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.

Eligible Content

Most Education Perfect international competitions include specific content. This means that only the specified content will earn points towards the event. 

• This may be all content within a certain subject area, or certain folder topics within one or more subjects. The event helpguide will indicate this clearly.
• Students will be able to earn points on all eligible content when the competition begins. They will earn points for eligible content whether they select it independently, or complete it as part of teacher-assigned tasks or assessments. 
• Points earned for topics or subjects that are not included in the event will not be added to a student's competition points total under any circumstances.

Good to know: 

• By clicking the competition tile/button in the Student Zone and pressing 'Compete' - students will automatically be taken to the correct content. They can also double-check the eligible content on the competition scoreboard. 
• In addition, we clearly specify what content is included for each event in the competition helpguides that are widely shared before each event. These are also linked in our main competition registration page. 

We strongly encourage all teachers to thoroughly read each event's helpguide to fully understand which content is included (and thus eligible for competition points), and to guide their students on the same.

Timings & Time Limits 

• All international competitions have a maximum participation time of 8 hours per 24 hour period. We encourage teachers to set their own guidelines for participation time to suit their students and school contexts.
• We cannot grant extra time to any student who encounters difficulties with internet access during the period of the competition. Should a student experience technical difficulties within the EP platform itself, we advise them to reach out to support@educationperfect.com as quickly as possible.
• It is the participating schools' responsibility to ensure that student enrolment has been completed, and that students have received their usernames and passwords, before events begin. Education Perfect will not grant extra time to schools who have not completed this process in time for the commencement of an event. 
• All Education Perfect international competitions are designed to accommodate hundreds of schools across multiple timezones. As a result, we cannot adjust competition start and finish times to suit individual students or schools. 

Participation in Parallel Events

Education Perfect runs a number of parallel events each year. These are events that use the same content, have the same rules and run across the same dates, but have different scoreboards. For example, a Global Languages Champs event running in parallel with a FOBISIA Languages Champs event. 

Schools that are eligible for entry to both competitions should choose one to participate in. Entry in both scoreboards will impact prize eligibility - please see below. 

Results & Prizes

School Rankings

• We award top school placings (1st, 2nd, 3rd) based on the highest average student points - rather than the overall total number of points. This is to ensure fairness for all schools, regardless of their size.

To check the standings on the event scoreboard, ensure you have toggled to School and ticked the Average checkbox.

• From the beginning of 2022, schools need to enrol at least 30 students to be eligible for top school awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in any event. Schools enrolling less than 30 students will still be eligible for individual student awards. You can find out more information on how to add or remove your classes from the competition here. 
• Top-scoring schools are awarded a digital badge to celebrate their achievement. These can be placed on their school website or department/faculty page.
• If a school achieves a top-3 placing for two parallel events running at the same time (as above), they will only get 1 award. That award will be determined from their highest ranking across the two scoreboards.

Student Rankings

We award top student places (1st, 2nd, 3rd) based on the students' total number of points. 

• Should two top-placing students achieve a 'draw' - the same number of points - the prize and placing will be awarded to the student who achieves this score first. 
• If a student achieves a top-3 placing for two parallel events running at the same time (as above), they will only get 1 prize. That prize will be determined from their highest ranking across the two scoreboards.

Student Prizes 

Most EP international competitions have prizes for the top 3 placing students.

• For these competitions, EP will offer gift vouchers - most commonly Amazon (international) or Giftpay (UK). Our Events team will contact the teachers of winning students after the conclusion of events to organise these.
• Should neither of the above options suit, it is the teacher's responsibility to identify a suitable alternative online store/merchant that will accept international payments. 
• Gift vouchers will then be emailed to the teacher of each student for distribution.

In no circumstances can we award student prizes in cash.

Student Certificates

The Education Perfect platform allows teachers to automatically download personalised student certificates from the event scoreboard once the event has concluded. 

• Downloading these certificates, and printing them if desired, is the responsibility of the teacher. 
• Certificates are awarded to students who earn enough points to reach the threshold of the award (Credit and above). Note that the points threshold for awards may vary between events.
• Due to the number of schools participating in each international event, we are not able to offer bespoke or personalised certificates for other purposes.

Accuracy

While we strive to provide accurate data in Education Perfect, we cannot be held responsible for any damages caused by inaccuracies in the software.
